Welcome to Brooklyn Homemaker. I’m Tux.
Brooklyn Homemaker is a blog about everything.
And about nothing.
It is a blog about cooking, but it is not a cooking blog.
It is a blog about baking, but it is not a baking blog.
It is a blog about home decor, interior design, an obsessive love for furniture & pretty things, entertaining & party planning, schnauzers, marriage, amateur photography, rants, raves, strong opinions, cocktails & drunkenness.
I’m originally from upstate New York, but have called Bushwick, Brooklyn home since 2007. I live here with my husband Russell and our two miniature schnauzers Doris & Betty. I manage an amazing kitchenware store in Williamsburg, but I find myself filling more and more of my spare time with cooking, baking, gardening, decorating, crafting, and teaching myself about photography and blogging.
My blogging adventure all started in the fall of 2013, after a brunch at home that ended with a show-stopping 3-layer pistachio cake with honey buttercream. When the cake was served my friends demanded that I start a blog to share my culinary capers, and, after several glasses of wine, I agreed to give it a shot. The rest, as they say, is history.
I picked up my love of cooking and baking at an early age from my mother and grandmother, and fostered my skills by taking culinary courses in high school and college. I’m constantly challenging myself and trying new things to help myself grow from enthusiastic amateur to home-spun professional.
While the main focus of Brooklyn Homemaker tends to be food and my love of cooking, baking, and eating; I have a lot of other interests and don’t want to limit myself by narrowing my focus. As I spend more and more time in my kitchen and home, I aspire to make improvements to the space I inhabit. I hope to share those projects with you along the way, just as I share the meals and treats that I stuff in my face.
Thanks for visiting Brooklyn Homemaker. I hope you come back soon and often to check in and see what I’m up to.
Hello Tux, i’m Laura i’m married to a man from Ohio and that where i live. But I’m from NC. feeling a little homesick and was looking for Southern bloggers to relate to, when i stumble across yours. I brought with me when i move here my Southern manners, food and style.
no one seems to understand my ways or my style, they say I’m gaudy, LOL. i love my jewelry and fancy clothes and my southern big hair and lipstick ! but i break the ice with people with my cooking. I really never gave a thought about people loving southern food in Brooklyn until i read your blog. i loved reading your recipes and dying to try your black pepper biscuits !
i just wanted you to know that you have a new fan to your blog site !
Thanks a misplaced Southerner.

You had me at “cocktails and drunkenness” (just kidding), but I was tempted to lick the screen on your red velvet cake article. Thanks for the nod.

Could read it all day, and hope to..well, not all day, but every day..or so..just awesome…so glad I found it, so thanks for following me …you may actually help me learn to cook something! If not, I will still enjoy this visual art, and maybe some DYI..wow just love this! :) -CC

I love everything about your bio. It makes perfect sense. Diversification, creativity, booze-hounding on a fun weekend. Yes sir! Plus, anyone who loves dogs as much as me is an automatic friend (even better that you’re into food and good wine).
Anyway, just wanted to say hello and thanks for sharing so much cooking and home inspo on here. I love the fact that the internet can bring people together from all corners of the globe (Hi from Perth, Western Australia!)

The light is pretty awesome for food photography. We have mild winters too, so I can count on natural light for some point of the day for… let’s say 90% of the year? Haha. It’s not so good for my balcony garden though. I’m still mourning the loss of my herbs and tomato plants in mid-summer *sob*
